Frankfurt: Three people, including a 10-month-old baby, were killed on Sunday after strong winds caused a tree to fall during an Easter egg hunt in northern Germany, police said.

The incident occurred near the town of Satrupholm, where around 50 people from a nearby residential facility for pregnant women and new mothers had gathered in a wooded area. A 30-metre tree suddenly collapsed, trapping several people underneath.

Four people were trapped under the tree. A 21-year-old woman and a 16-year-old girl died at the scene, while the woman’s infant daughter later died in hospital. An 18-year-old woman sustained serious injuries and was airlifted for treatment.

The facility is part of a state-supported child welfare system. Authorities said the area had been under a high wind warning, and grief counsellors were deployed to support those affected.
