District 20 Toastmasters’ annual conference begins

ManamaHis Highness Shaikh Isa bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Chairman of Isa bin Salman Educational Charity Waqf and son of HRH the Crown Prince, inaugurated the District 20 Toastmasters’ annual conference at the Gulf Hotel yesterday.

In his inaugural speech, Shaikh Isa underscored the successes of the youth development programmes implemented by His Majesty King Hamad and the work carried out by NGOs and charities such as the Isa bin Salman Educational Charity Waqf and Toastmasters International.

His Highness praised the honorary chairman, Ali Alraies, and District 20 director, Ali Shahbaz Ali, for their efforts and contributions and wished the delegates a successful event. 

“This is the largest district conference in the world, this conference consist of participation from seven countries. What makes this the largest is not just that we are seven countries but that we have over 350 clubs. As the head of this district, I am happy that so-many members of the district have made it here today. This event is not just about contests, it is about many other things such as creating leaders,” said District Director Ali Shahbaz Ali in his introductory speech.

“The beauty of Bahrain is that this is a place where toastmasters began, back in the nineteen sixties,” he added.

The District 20 Toastmasters Annual Conference “DTAC 2017” is a 3-day annual event organised by each member state on rotation. 

During the event, several champions from each country will display their talents in public speaking and compete in four contests both in Arabic and English across four categories: International Speech, Evaluation, Humorous Speech and Table Topics.

More than 800 delegates from seven countries are participating in the event held under the theme ‘Towards Excellence’

Members of District 20 Toastmasters, which comprises Bahrain, UAE, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Lebanon and Jordan were present at the event.
