Manama
Saudi authorities foiled an attempt to smuggle more than 300 liquor bottles that was coming from Bahrain through King Fahad Causeway.
In a statement to Saudi daily Al Riyadh, Saudi Customs at King Fahad Causeway General Director Dhaif Al Otaibi confirmed that the bottles were detected in three private vehicles.
According to Al Otaibi, a total of 380 bottles of various liquor brands were confiscated. He explained that they were concealed in different parts of the vehicle.
Al Otaibi said 138 bottles were detected in one car, while the remaining two cars were carrying 98 and 144 bottles each.
“The bottles were hidden in different places in the cars. They were stashed in the gas tank, spare tyre and special compartments created in the front and rear doors. The smugglers used the same methods in the three attempts and they were sequentially arrested,” he explained.
Al Otaibi added that all three vehicles had private license plates. He confirmed that necessary procedures had been taken against the smugglers.
