New law to control food trucks on road

Manama : Industry, Commerce and Tourism Minister Zayed bin Rashid Al Zayani has issued a resolution, regulating the ownership of mobile food restaurants and food trucks to Bahrain natives. The Resolution 13 of 2017, instructing the said regulation was issued on Thursday.

According to the resolution, permission to sell food in mobile vehicles will be given to Bahraini nationals only. Health Ministry approval would be an inevitable factor. Where and when to locate the vehicle and sell food will be decided by the concerned municipality.

The regulation also specifies that the location of the vehicle has to be set in such a way that it should not make any hindrances in traffic. Concerned authorities have to coordinate between themselves and make a decision after the application has been received by them.

The vehicle that sells food must be registered with the General Directorate of Traffic and approved by the Civil Defence Directorate of the Interior Ministry.

The vehicle has to display its commercial name and the number in a way that it should be noted by both the authorities and the customers, according to the resolution.

DT News had reported on an announcement made by the Industry, Commerce and Tourism Ministry on March 9 that it was mulling on the subject and would be bringing out a resolution to control the number of food trucks on roads.

The decision was against the growing popularity of the idea and presence of more trucks around parks and public gatherings. It was also to put a rein on trucks selling sandwiches, corn, ice cream and other food articles.
