Drug peddler's jail sentence upheld

ManamaThe Supreme Appeals Court has upheld the jail sentences awarded against two Bahraini men accused in connection with peddling illicit drugs near a mosque. The first convicted man was earlier handed down ten years behind bars along with BD5000 while the second man was given one year in prison along with BD3000 fine.

According to court files, police officers received a tip-off about the 28-year-old first defendant’s activities. And then an undercover police officer contacted him, requesting to buy heroin cigarettes from him for BD60. The 28-year-old asked the officer to meet him near a mosque to hand him the ordered drugs.

Police officers didn’t arrest the man even after the operation completed, but opted to track him instead. He then met the second defendant, aged 55, and he delivered to him heroine cigarettes. Police officers then nabbed both. The first defendant was charged with peddling while the second accused was indicted of consuming.
