'She's 15, not 11!

Manama : The Syrian girl, who reportedly gave birth at a private hospital in the Capital on November 10, is claimed to be 15 years old, by her father and husband.

It was reported earlier that a 11-year-old girl had given birth in a hospital in Manama.

“Both of them showed a copy of the girl’s marriage contract that was issued in Syria,” announced Mardhiya Hassan, Family and Child Prosecution Chief Prosecutor, in a statement.

“They informed that the girl is 15 years old, clarifying that a printing error in formal documents mentioned that she is eleven. They are both detained pending further investigations,” the official said.

The statement also mentioned that the delivery of the child was done in the American Mission Hospital, where she was accompanied by a Syrian man who claimed to be her husband and presented a Syrian-issued marriage contract.

“The Public Prosecution launched investigations into the incident, after being notified by Hoora Police Station. The girl, her father and her husband were interrogated. She was referred to an expert to determine her actual age and whether she was abused. Both men are remanded in custody pending investigations,” the chief prosecutor added.

DT News reported earlier this month that the girl was brought  by her husband and father to a private hospital in Manama during the final stages of pregnancy.

Earlier, the Health Ministry denied reports of some local dailies that Salmaniya Medical Complex rejected the girl. The Ministry had affirmed that it won’t reject treating any case that requires medical attention.
