Young talents create educational mobile apps

ManamaA group of children aged between 9 and 14 created nine mobile applications last month. Using the programming language ‘Java’, 18 children created a variety of educational mobile applications. It was part of an initiative called ‘Young Coder Club’ by VII Tech Solutions, a local digital agency. The initiative, which VII Tech Solutions claims is the first-of-its-kind in Bahrain, was organised from August 1 to August 30 at Shakhura Youth Centre.

The young app creators were Mohammed Al Khabbaz, Jasim Husain Thamer, Mahmood Sabt, Sayed Abdulaziz Abdullah, Bashar Abdullah, Abdulla Yaser, Yahya Abdul Hadi Turaif, Munther Ammar, S.Hadi Sayed Sadiq Ali, Yaseen Ali, Shaili Shah, Amjad Mohammed Jaffar, Sharifa Mohammed Jaffar, Mohammed Hamza, Ali Hamza, Ishan Das, Dalia Mohamed and Yasmine Mohamed

During the four-week programme, participants worked in teams of two to three, learned the basics of mobile apps programming, and developed applications, which were launched on the Google Play Store. Once they completed the course and published their mobile applications, they received a certificate of achievement.

Yahya, an 11-year-old participant said, “I have learned that creating mobile applications is very difficult and takes a very long time. But it is also so much fun. In the future, I would like to add more updates to my app and publish other apps on the store”.

Chairman of the Shakhura Youth Centre Ali Sabt commented: “I have been thoroughly impressed by the outcome of the Young Coder Club. I hope to see more initiatives in the future that support children in technology.”
