Bahraini MP flays fugitive Kuwaiti MP’s remarks

Manama : Parliament’s Foreign Affairs, Defence and National Security Committee member MP Jamal Buhassan lambasted yesterday the recent statements made by a Kuwaiti MP, who’s wanted in Bahrain on criminal charges.

Controversial Kuwaiti MP Abdulhameed Dashti, in a recent televised interview, had compared the Saudi regime to the Zionist entity.

Dashti had also accused the Saudi regime of supporting terrorism and called for sanctions against the Kingdom.

The MP was stripped off his parliamentary immunity in March as per the decision of the Kuwaiti Justice Ministry for harming the State’s security. This came following complaints against him filed by the Saudi Arabian Foreign Affairs Ministry. The man is also wanted in Bahrain for his involvement in illegal fundraising and was sentenced to two years of imprisonment last December.

Moreover, the Public Prosecution here confirmed that the arrest warrant had been circulated internationally through the Interpol.

In a statement issued yesterday and in reply to Dashti’s recent statements, Buhassan said Dashti is supporting the Iranian strategy in the region, aiming at promoting sectarian tensions and sedition. “He’s attempting to create a Sunni-Shia conflict in the region to divide the nation into sectarian statelets.”

Buhassan also revealed that “Dashti is assembling a team of attorneys to support a controversial resolution of the American Congress that accuses Saudi Arabia of supporting terrorism, specifically the 9-11 attacks back in September, 2001.”

He termed Dashti’s move as a desperate attempt to defame Saudi Arabia. It’s noteworthy that Buhassan has pledged recently that he will travel to Kuwait in order to sue the Kuwaiti MP.

He told DT News in March that he had assigned attorneys to follow up the matter. However, it has been reported that Dashti hadn’t returned to Kuwait since then and was sheltered in Damascus by Al Assad’s regime.
