Bahrain court upholds conviction in Sitra attack
Manama: The Supreme Appeals Court has upheld the conviction of three defendants, who were tried in connection with Sitra Police Station attack. The Bahrainis were part of a mob of around 100 people who hurled Molotov cocktails and metal rods at officers and the Sitra Police Station on August 25, 2012.
Twenty-eight Bahraini men have been earlier convicted in connection with the assault. Twenty-five of the defendants have been sentenced to 10 years each, while three men were sentenced to three years behind bars. All the defendants have been convicted of arson, rioting, possessing Molotov cocktails and explosives. A policeman was injured by a metal rod hurled at him during the assault, and part of the police station got damaged. The 17 convicts earlier pleaded not guilty and claimed they had been ill-treated in custody.
They were found guilty due to their confessions, probe and evidence collected from the scene.
