In a first, solar-powered mosque inaugurated in Daih
Manama : The first solar energy-powered mosque in the Kingdom of Bahrain was inaugurated recently in the Daih village.
Jaffaria Waqf Directorate in Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments Ministry stated that Shaikh Abdulla Mosque is energised by electricity generated from several solar cells installed on top of the mosque.
Directorate Chairman Shaikh Mohsen Al Asfoor said the new technology contributes to the country’s rationalising of energy consumption.
“The project was tested for an entire month before it was officially inaugurated. It’s the first brick of several similar environment-friendly projects that would be announced soon. It will also include mataams (community centres) and other facilities. These projects come in line with the orientation of the Kingdom to preserve energy,” Al Asfoor added.
