Bahrain court to hear verdict for corrupt officer in May

Manama: A court ruling will be announced on May 5 in the trial of a vehicle inspection officer in the General Traffic Directorate, who is accused of accepting bribes in exchange of passing over vehicles’ technical defects.  He is standing trial before the High Criminal Court with six other defendants, who allegedly abetted his crime.  But only three defendants are in police custody.

The officer is said to have accepted bribes between BD100 and BD120 to pass defective vehicles that were prepared to enter car races.

The second defendant told prosecutors that he brought to the defendant between 15 to 20 vehicles and he paid him amounts ranging between BD50 and BD100 apiece. “I was giving him (the inspection officer) the vehicles in a car parking near the General Traffic Directorate’s premises,” the second defendant said.
