The Minister of Industry and Commerce Zayed bin Rashid Al Zayani delegated  Undersecretary of Commerce Affairs Nader Al Moayyed to chair a meeting with food traders and major hypermarkets officials to review market’s readiness to receive the holy month of Ramadan.

The meeting was following the directives of His Royal Highness Prime Minister Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa to follow up commercial sector preparations for the holy month and to provide citizen’s needs in the markets.

One of the fruits and vegetables suppliers confirmed  the increase in frequency of the import to meet the demand, which is expected to reach over 200 tons per day. The imports are primarily from countries including Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Egypt, Lebanon, Turkey, India, Pakistan, the Philippines and South Africa.

Officials confirmed abundant quantities of food commodities in the hypermarkets, sufficient for over three months. They said the prices are stable, and that many shops are organising promotional campaigns throughout the holy month to suit consumers’ needs at competitive prices.

Bahrain Livestock Company noted the average daily consumption of meat is expected to be about 140 cattle a day. The stock of live sheep in the barns is about 20 thousand plus three rounds of cargo arrival of ships loaded with 30 thousand live sheep.

The food stocks monitored by the Ministry of Industry and Commerce shows there are over 1,800 tons of chilled and frozen chicken, which is sufficient for market’s needs for at least two months.

The Bahrain Flour Mills Company would supply daily Ramadan products and provide 685 traditional bakeries and 74 automatic bakeries  of subsidized flour.
