Radhakrishna Pillai win Bahrain Keraleeya Samajam Election

Manama: The Bahrain Keraleeya Samajam (BKS) United Panel led by PV Radhakrishna Pillai achieved a clean sweep in the hotly-contested election to the executive committee of the BKS, the largest expatriate club in Bahrain which represents the entire Keralites in the Kingdom.

All members of Mr Pillai's panel were elected with a clear margin of votes when the results were declared tonight.

They defeated the BKS panel led by K Janardhanan in the election conducted as part of the BKS annual general body meeting. 

The following were elected from BKS United Panel  for the year 2016-17: PV Radhakrishna Pillai - President; NK Veeramani - General Secretary; Francis Kaitharath - Vice President; Sirajudeen NK - Assistant General Secretary; Devadas Kunnath - Treasurer; Manohar Pavaratty -Entertainment Secretary; Rakesh Rajappan - Membership Secretary; Vinaya Chandran - Librarian; Sudhi Puthanvelikkara - Literary Wing Secretary and  Manoj  Kumar M - Internal Auditor. 

Noushad Cheryil was elected unopposed earlier for the post of Indoor Games Secretary. The current BKS president Varghese Karakkal told DT News that they plan to hand over the responsibility to the newly elected committee headed by PV Radhakrishna Pillai on March 22. There were 1482 eligible voters of which 1192 voted. 

PV Radhakrishna Pillai who has been active in the social spheres of Bahrain for the past 20 years, has the previous experience of working as Samajam president, general secretary and Samajm Building committee chairman. He was elected, and had served as the honorary chairman of the Indian School Bahrain, one of the largest Central Board of Secondary Educatin schools in the Arabian Gulf, with a current strength of 12000 students. He served for six years in two successive three-year terms from 2002-2008. 

Hailing from Mavelikkara, a small town in Alappuzha district of South India's Kerala, PVR has been, from his youth, involved in organising several social and cultural activities. Apart from being an academically brilliant engineering student, he was also involved in conducting several drama contests. He is currently working as a senior engineer at Bahrain's Electricity and Water Ministry but had earlier served in the Kerala State Electricity Board before moving here. He lives here with his wife and two daughters. He was honoured as 'the outstanding Alumnus' by Indian politician and diplomat Dr.Shashi Tharoor at the College of Engineering Trivandrum Global Alumni Meet in 2014.
