North Korea Vows ‘Powerful Response’ to US Arms Sale to South Korea

Seoul: North Korea warned that it would react strongly and immediately to what it called hostile moves, criticising the United States' approval of a possible $125 million arms sale to South Korea on Thursday.

According to state media KCNA, North Korea's Foreign Ministry described the planned sale of AIM-9X Sidewinder air-to-air missiles and associated equipment as a new threat to its security environment.

Pyongyang denounced the growing military cooperation between the US and South Korea and charged Washington with pursuing a hostile agenda. It also objected to US-sponsored initiatives to compile data on North Korea and record human rights problems.

The warning coincides with US President Donald Trump's continued attempts to meet with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, despite Pyongyang's lack of formal desire to do so.
