Seventy-five three-metre-high misting poles are now spraying fine water mist across Aali Walkway to cool the air for walkers and runners during the summer heat.
The system has been switched on as part of an upgrade to the walkway, Northern Municipal Council member Abdullah Ashoor said.
The poles have been spaced along the route to spray a fine water mist and make walking and running easier during hot weather.
Mr Ashoor, who represents the sixth constituency, said the new system would make a clear difference to people using the walkway during the hottest months.
The Ministry of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture’s Parks and Landscaping Directorate with the Northern Area Municipality, is carrying out the work.
The old interlock paving is also being replaced with a new walking and running surface similar to that used at Hamad Town Walkway.
Work on the children’s play area includes repairing existing equipment, adding new shade canopies and new lighting.
The toilets and other buildings at the site are also being repaired. The walkway’s lighting is being renewed and security cameras are being installed.
Mr Ashoor said the work followed demand for better sports and leisure facilities in the area, with residents regularly using Aali Walkway for walking and running.
