Three Arrested for Illegal Fishing in Bahrain Waters
Coast Guard intercepts boat using banned bottom trawl nets
Bahrain’s Coast Guard arrested three people after intercepting their boat for violating maritime regulations and using prohibited bottom trawl nets for fishing.
The Ministry of Interior said the boat had crossed Bahrain’s maritime boundaries and returned despite repeated warnings and orders to stop. The occupants also prevented officers from carrying out inspection procedures and had failed to operate the vessel’s Automatic Identification System (AIS).
Legal procedures have been taken against the three, pending referral to the Public Prosecution.
The Coast Guard urged fishermen and sea users to comply with fishing and maritime navigation regulations and to immediately follow orders from marine patrols during inspections.
It warned that violations affecting maritime security, safety or marine resources would not be tolerated and said monitoring and enforcement operations would continue.
