Kingdom condemns Iranian attack on an ADNOC oil tanker in the Strait of Hormuz
The Kingdom of Bahrain has strongly condemned an Iranian missile attack targeting an ADNOC oil tanker while it was transiting the Strait of Hormuz.
In a statement issued on August 8, Bahrain’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs described the attack as a flagrant violation of international law, the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea and UN Security Council Resolution 2817.
The Ministry warned that the attack poses a serious threat to maritime security and global energy supplies, given the strategic importance of the Strait of Hormuz to international shipping and energy transportation.
Bahrain also reaffirmed its full solidarity with the United Arab Emirates, expressing support for all measures taken by the UAE to protect its sovereignty, security, stability and vital interests.
The Ministry stressed that the security and stability of the UAE are an integral part of Bahrain’s national security, highlighting the deep-rooted ties between the two countries.
Bahrain further called on the UN Security Council to fulfill its responsibilities and take deterrent measures to safeguard maritime navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and other vital waterways.
The Kingdom also called for Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and refrain from targeting commercial vessels, stressing the importance of protecting regional and global interests and maintaining security and stability.
