EU Parliament Focus on Security, Peace and Trade

Shura Council Chairman Ali bin Saleh Al Saleh held talks with a European Parliament delegation led by Reinhold Lopatka, Chair of the European Parliament’s Committee on Relations with the Arabian Peninsula, focusing on parliamentary cooperation and regional and international developments.

The meeting highlighted the role of parliamentary diplomacy in supporting global security and stability, promoting peace and peaceful solutions, and safeguarding international trade. The discussions also covered ways to strengthen parliamentary relations between Bahrain and the European Union, exchange expertise and coordinate on issues of mutual interest.

The two sides reviewed political and security developments in the Middle East and their impact on diplomatic relations and the global economy, as well as their implications for the safety and security of international navigation.

They also discussed the Iranian attacks on Bahrain’s civilian and vital facilities and the need to support international efforts aimed at strengthening security and stability and protecting international trade amid the current developments.

Al Saleh said Bahrain’s legislative authority welcomes visits and meetings with parliaments and parliamentary organisations, reflecting its belief that dialogue, coordination and joint action provide a constructive path for countries and peoples to combine efforts and build shared understanding.

He said such engagement contributes to developing common visions that create greater opportunities for development, growth and prosperity.

Al Saleh added that the approach reflects the vision of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, King of Bahrain, centred on openness, communication and stronger international partnerships in support of the interests of peoples, as well as security, stability and development.
