Bahrain is strengthening road safety through infrastructure development, road network expansion and the introduction of smart traffic systems and cameras.

Major General Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Abdulwahab Al Khalifa, Director General of the General Directorate of Traffic, said these initiatives are having a positive impact on traffic safety, helping reduce traffic violations and accidents while protecting lives and property.

The Directorate has completed the first phase of its smart camera system as part of a broader plan to modernise Bahrain’s traffic system and make greater use of advanced technologies.

According to the Director General, performance indicators have shown a significant decline in traffic violations and accidents, reflecting the impact of road development projects and the integration of smart traffic systems.

He also praised the growing awareness among drivers and their commitment to traffic rules, saying this reflects a stronger culture of safe driving and contributes to protecting all road users.

The General Directorate of Traffic will continue implementing plans to modernise the traffic system and expand the use of advanced technologies, with protecting lives and property remaining a top priority.
