Shura Council Chairman Ali bin Saleh Al Saleh has congratulated Dr Khalida Boufdash on her election as President of Algeria’s National People’s Assembly, making her the first woman to lead the chamber since its establishment in 1977.

Al Saleh praised Dr Boufdash’s parliamentary experience and described her election as a milestone for Algerian women and the country’s parliamentary history.

Civil Defence evacuated a multi-storey building in Manama yesterday as a precaution and extinguished a fire that broke out in a ground-floor restaurant and spread to two vehicles. No injuries were reported. Investigations are underway to determine the cause of the fire.

Bahrain condemns Houthi attack on civilian targets in Saudi Arabia

The Kingdom of Bahrain strongly condemned and denounced the attack by the Iran-backed Houthi militia targeting civilians and civilian infrastructure in Najran, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, using indiscriminate projectiles that injured several civilians. The Kingdom described the attack as a dangerous escalation and a flagrant violation of international law, international humanitarian law and the United Nations Charter.

In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterated the Kingdom of Bahrain's full solidarity with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and its full support for all measures it takes to safeguard its sovereignty, security and civilian infrastructure. The ministry also wished those injured a speedy recovery and called for decisive international action to hold the Houthi militia accountable and cut off its sources of funding and arms.

The ministry emphasised the Kingdom of Bahrain's support for Saudi Arabia's diplomatic and humanitarian efforts to achieve a comprehensive political solution to the Yemeni crisis. It stressed that any solution must be based on the Gulf Initiative, the outcomes of the National Dialogue Conference and the relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions, foremost Resolution 2216, in order to preserve Yemen's unity, sovereignty and regional stability.

Bahrain condemns Damascus bus bombing

Bahrain has condemned the terrorist bus bombing in Jaramana, rural Damascus, which killed and injured several people.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs extended condolences to Syria, the victims’ families and wished the injured a speedy recovery.

The ministry reaffirmed Bahrain’s solidarity with Syria and its firm rejection of terrorism and attacks targeting innocent civilians.
