The Ministry of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture announced a six-month grace period for food truck operators to comply with new regulations governing the sector, giving businesses until December 21 to meet the updated requirements.
In a statement shared on its digital platforms, the ministry urged food truck owners to use the grace period to regularise their operations and ensure full compliance with municipal regulations and public safety standards.
The ministry said the move is aimed at organising the growing food truck sector, protecting the safety of residents and visitors, and preventing practices that create public nuisance, disrupt traffic or affect the appearance of neighbourhoods.
Under the new rules, food truck owners must obtain written permission from the property owner before parking or operating at any location. Food trucks are also prohibited from parking within street rights-of-way or directly in front of residential buildings to minimise disruption to nearby residents.
The regulations further require food trucks to remain at least 50 metres away from road intersections and traffic signals to maintain clear visibility and smooth traffic movement. Operators must also leave a minimum distance of two metres between their vehicles and other parked vehicles.
The ministry also stressed the importance of ensuring that all electrical connections used in food trucks meet safety standards. Operators have been instructed to follow all necessary safety precautions to reduce risks associated with food preparation, equipment and vehicle operations.
