The Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry has welcomed Cabinet Decision No. (7) of 2026, which prohibits the manufacturing, import, and circulation of single-use plastic bags with a thickness of less than 57 microns, describing it as a significant step toward environmental sustainability and the advancement of a green economy.
The Chamber said the decision reflects the Kingdom of Bahrain’s growing commitment to strengthening environmental protection policies and promoting more responsible production and consumption patterns.
It praised the efforts of the Ministry of Industry and Commerce in coordination with the Supreme Council for Environment for launching and implementing initiatives aimed at reducing the environmental impact of single-use plastics. These efforts, it noted, align with Bahrain’s national development goals, including improved quality of life and the preservation of natural resources.
The Chamber emphasized that the private sector plays a key role as a strategic partner in the success of national environmental initiatives. It reiterated its commitment to supporting sustainability efforts and encouraging businesses to adopt eco-friendly alternatives and develop innovative solutions that balance economic growth with environmental protection.
It further stated that the transition toward sustainable products is not only an environmental responsibility but also an opportunity to enhance innovation, expand green industries, and strengthen the competitiveness of private sector institutions. This shift, it added, aligns with global trends that increasingly prioritize environmental standards and enhance Bahrain’s attractiveness as an investment destination.
