The Embassy of India in Bahrain inaugurated dedicated Kerala and Puducherry Tourism and One District One Product (ODOP) walls at its Consular Hall, highlighting the tourism potential, cultural heritage and unique products of the two Indian regions.

Ambassador of India to Bahrain, H.E. Vinod K. Jacob, unveiled the walls in the presence of members of the Kerala community in the Kingdom. The displays feature prominent tourist attractions and a range of products identified under India’s One District One Product (ODOP) initiative.

Addressing the gathering in Malayalam and Tamil, Ambassador Jacob said the month-long focus on Kerala and Puducherry would provide Indians in Bahrain and friends of India with an opportunity to discover the rich cultural heritage, tourism offerings and commercial prospects of both regions.

Counsellor Rajiv Kumar Mishra delivered remarks in French, reflecting Puducherry’s longstanding cultural and historical connections with France.

The initiative forms part of the Embassy’s “Focus State/Union Territory” programme, under which a selected Indian state or union territory is promoted in Bahrain for a period of one to two months. Previous editions have showcased Rajasthan, Kashmir, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Odisha, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Bihar, Jharkhand, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Delhi, Maharashtra and Goa.

Often referred to as “God’s Own Country,” Kerala is renowned for its scenic backwaters, beaches, hill stations and lush landscapes. The state is also known for its high literacy rate, quality healthcare, vibrant cultural traditions such as Kathakali and Mohiniyattam, Ayurveda, traditional boat races and distinctive cuisine. It is among India’s leading producers of spices, rubber and coconuts.

Puducherry, meanwhile, is celebrated for its French colonial heritage, reflected in its architecture, cuisine and culture. Attractions such as the French Quarter, colonial-era buildings, beaches, Sri Aurobindo Ashram and Auroville continue to draw visitors seeking culture, spirituality and sustainable living experiences.

The Embassy also highlighted Bharat Innovates 2026, a flagship initiative of India’s Ministry of Education, which is scheduled to take place in Nice, France, from June 14 to 16. Promotional materials and banners for the event were displayed at the Consular Hall.

Ambassador Jacob thanked Bahrain Keraleeya Samajam (BKS) for supporting the Embassy in sourcing the ODOP products showcased during the exhibition. BKS also organised colourful cultural performances and presented a variety of traditional cuisines as part of the inauguration celebrations.
