Three New Declarations Set Space Rules

Bahrain has backed three international declarations aimed at strengthening cooperation, safety and sustainability in outer space, reaffirming the Kingdom’s role in global space governance.

The Bahrain Space Agency (BSA) participated in a ceremony in Paris marking the declarations, which were issued during the first International Space Summit attended by representatives from more than 90 countries and international organisations.

BSA Chief Executive Officer Dr. Mohammed Ibrahim Al Aseeri said Bahrain’s endorsement reflects the Kingdom’s commitment to international principles governing space activities and its support for greater cooperation in the sector.

The first declaration promotes wider access to scientific space data, focusing on openness, data integrity and international cooperation.

The second addresses the peaceful, safe, stable and sustainable use of outer space. It also highlights growing challenges facing the sector, including orbital congestion and space debris.

The third declaration supports the International Telecommunication Union’s regulatory framework for the effective and sustainable use of radio frequency spectrum and associated satellite orbits.

Dr. Al Aseeri said Bahrain’s support for the three declarations demonstrates its commitment to advancing a safe and sustainable future for space activities while strengthening international cooperation.

The endorsement places Bahrain alongside countries working to develop common principles for managing the increasingly complex and rapidly expanding space sector.
