‘Feed the Need’ and Darcha join hands to help the needy

For a while now, this charity initiative group has been well known for its strong cause to Feed the Need by distributing numerous fridges open to the public for anyone to donate and the needy to pick their food.

Taking it to the next level, not only is Feed the Need going big in 2016 by making it a goal to have a public event every month but it has continued to make its initiative stronger by collaborating with others.

Twenty fridges have been placed on street corners in Bahrain to feed hundreds of families in need, Darcha restaurant in Nakheel centre Sar is set to become Bahrain’s first pay it forward restaurant.

This idea was inspired by a pizza shop that gained exposure through the Ellen Degerenous Show. The pizza shop owner was approached by a customer who offered to pay-it-forward and buy a slice for a homeless person, which he turned into a trend. Pay-it-Forward is a trend that involves the recipient being instructed to pay it forward to someone else in need.

Owner at Darcha and Feed the Need administrator Elizabeth Dadd have paved the way for charity and gratefulness to be realised in a everyday meal. Starting in February 2016 every customer at the restaurant will have the opportunity to buy a hot meal for one of the 20 Feed the Need fridges that are placed around Bahrain for just 1bd.

Pay it forward restaurants has been gaining momentum around the world with many restaurants popping up in New York, around Australia and Asia, more recently one has opened up in Doha, Qatar.

Elizabeth Dadd from Feed the Need said: “This initiative is a great way to bring charity to the minds of the more fortunate everyday. We have seen success in programmes like this before some gaining great exposure through the Ellen Degenerous show.”

Elizabeth Dadd added that, “Feed the need and Darcha’s pay it forward restaurant idea was inspired by Ellen show talking about the pizza shop in Detroit where 50 to 60 homeless people are fed each day. Bahrain has a lot of people who are willing and wanting to help but don’t have contact with many of the feed the need recipient groups. Making the restaurant go pay it forward gives people a easy connection to help people in need.”
The owner of Darcha restaurant is passionate about helping people in the local community and was eager to help the community by starting this program here in Bahrain. Darcha restaurant and tea house is located in Nakheel centre in Sar opposite St. Christophers school.

It offers a selection of Asian inspired appetizers and snacks as well as a vast selection of teas and baked items.

Customers dining in and taking delivery option will have the option of donating 1bd per hot meal to feed the need and writing a motivational message on the board in the restaurant that will be delivered with the meals to the Feed the need fridges.
