Bahrain Participates in GCC Meeting on Railway Project Progress

Bahrain participated in a meeting of liaison officers for the Gulf Cooperation Council railway project to review progress achieved during the first quarter of 2026 and discuss steps to accelerate implementation of the regional transport initiative.

The virtual meeting was organised by the GCC Railways Authority as part of ongoing coordination efforts among GCC member states to advance joint strategic infrastructure projects.

Fatima Abdulla Al Dhaen, Undersecretary for Land Transport and Postal Affairs at the Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications of Bahrain, represented Bahrain during the discussions.

Al Dhaen said the GCC railway project plays a major role in strengthening economic and logistical integration among Gulf states by providing sustainable transportation solutions and improving the movement of passengers and goods across the region.

She reaffirmed Bahrain’s commitment to supporting efforts aimed at accelerating implementation through enhanced coordination and exchange of expertise with fellow GCC countries.

The Undersecretary also stressed the importance of unified regional efforts to overcome technical and operational challenges and achieve the project’s strategic objectives.

Participants reviewed the latest developments in the railway project and discussed implementation of directives issued by GCC leaders during their nineteenth consultative meeting, which called for speeding up work on the initiative.

The meeting also focused on strengthening coordination between relevant authorities and addressing operational and technical issues to ensure adherence to approved timelines and support greater integration of transport and logistics systems across GCC member states.

Bahrain said its participation reflects the Kingdom’s commitment to joint Gulf cooperation and its support for strategic infrastructure projects aimed at enhancing regional economic integration and sustainable development.
