Speaker Chairs APA Coordination Meeting on Sidelines of IPU Assembly

Ahmed bin Salman Al Musallam, Speaker of the Council of Representatives and President of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly, chaired the APA coordination meeting held in Istanbul on the sidelines of the Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly.

During the meeting, the Speaker highlighted the serious escalation in the Middle East amid ongoing challenges, attributing this to Iranian attacks targeting Gulf Cooperation Council member states and the Jordan.

He stressed that these actions represent a clear violation of national sovereignty and international law, posing a direct threat to regional and global security.

Al Musallam also noted that Iran’s closure of the Strait of Hormuz has had major consequences on global energy security, trade, and supply chains.

He pointed out that United Nations Security Council Resolution 2817 and United Nations Human Rights Council Resolution 38 reflect broad international support condemning the attacks and calling for an immediate halt, alongside ensuring the protection of civilians and freedom of navigation.

The Speaker emphasised the need for stronger parliamentary coordination within the APA to address current challenges and safeguard regional stability. He also expressed hope for support in submitting an emergency item to the IPU condemning the attacks on GCC countries and Jordan.
