The Minister of Housing and Urban Planning, Amna bint Hamad Al Rumaihi, has issued a decision to reclassify several properties in Muharraq as part of the strategic project to develop the historic city.

According to the decision published in the Official Gazette, the classification of a number of properties located in Muharraq and connected to the Pearl Route has been changed. The areas previously designated as Continuous Residential Zones (RHB) and Continuous Residential with Commercial Use (RHB) have now been reclassified into National Heritage Buildings (NHB) and Urban Heritage Areas (UHA).

The move is part of Bahrain’s ongoing efforts to preserve and enhance its historical urban identity while integrating development standards aligned with heritage protection.

The decision stipulates that the updated classifications will follow the planning and building regulations applicable across different zones in the Kingdom of Bahrain, as outlined in Resolution No. 93 of 2023. It also states that any provisions that conflict with the new decision will be annulled.
