Dealing with a crisis cannot be left to the state alone, Dr Jameela Al Salman said, arguing that Bahrain is strongest when public bodies and the community pull together.

In an interview with Bahrain TV, the Shura Council member said community partnership must be seen as a lived practice rather than a loose social idea.

“It turns from a theoretical, awareness, or social concept into a true, real practice based on full and deep conviction,” she said.

Dr Al Salman said meeting hard times calls for joined-up work between government bodies, citizens and residents, rather than leaving the task to one side alone.

Effort

She said that shared effort reaches across security, health, culture and education, and rests on a clear sense of public duty.

The lawmaker pointed to Bahrain’s handling of the Covid-19 pandemic as a strong case of that spirit in action, saying the country’s response won praise from bodies such as the World Health Organisation.

Speaking about recent strains, she said community partnership remains one of the main props of unity, with people standing together behind the leadership.

She described it as “a true indicator of the strength of the relationship between the leadership and the people” and said it showed the depth of trust between both sides.

Dr Al Salman also spoke warmly of steps taken by the Ministry of Interior to build trust and keep channels with the public open, saying such work helps keep security and stability in place.

She added that young people are the driving force in many of these efforts, bringing energy, ideas and reach that help shape answers fit for the needs of society.

For Dr Al Salman, that model points to a country with strong institutions and a public able to face hard moments with confidence.
