With Eid just around the corner, excitement is building among families as children eagerly look forward to one of the most joyful traditions of Eid al-Fitr, receiving Eidiya.

Astronomical calculations indicate that Ramadan will complete 30 days this year, with Eid Al Fitr expected on Friday, March 20, according to Waheeb Al Nasser, Professor of Applied Physics and Vice President of the Bahraini Astronomical Society. The Shawwal crescent committees will meet on Wednesday, March 18, while the astronomical conjunction occurs on Thursday, March 19. Experts say the moon will not be visible Wednesday evening, and Thursday is expected to complete the 30th day of Ramadan, with the crescent likely visible Thursday night in Bahrain. Fasting hours this week remain 13 hours and 24 minutes.

Across homes and neighbourhoods, preparations for Eid are already underway despite the ongoing political tension. Children remain the most excited discussing their Eid plans - and more importantly, how much Eidiya they might receive. Children also look forward to wearing all things new, from bright clothes to sparkling shoes, making the day even more special.

Eidiya, the tradition of giving money or small gifts to children during Eid, remains a beloved custom. Tucked in colourful envelopes decorated with crescents and lanterns, these tokens bring big smiles. Days before Eid, children plan which relatives to visit, anticipating envelopes of joy. Beyond the excitement, Eidiya teaches generosity and kindness. Amidst the chaos, Eid is a ray of hope, celebrating family, love, and togetherness.
