Manama : Bahrain’s Chief of Police, Lieutenant General Tariq Al Hassan, has led the first high-level coordination meeting for a new national biometric measurement system, marking the formal start of a major technology programme aimed at modernising security and public services.
The session brought together senior officials from the Ministry of Interior, the Nationality, Passports and Residence Affairs authority and the Information and eGovernment Authority, alongside representatives of IDEMIA Public Security France, the firm selected to deliver the system, and HJP Consulting, which is supporting the project.
During the meeting, Lt. Gen. Al Hassan underlined that the initiative is designed to support the country’s security strategy by expanding the use of advanced digital technologies. He said the project aligns with the Ministry of Interior’s wider direction to improve operational efficiency, strengthen public safety and expand high-quality electronic services for citizens and residents.
Officials also highlighted that the platform will link multiple government bodies through a shared biometric infrastructure, enabling closer cooperation, clearer operational oversight and regular performance monitoring across all participating entities.
The committee reviewed the technical design of the system, the phased implementation roadmap and the responsibilities assigned to each authority, with an emphasis on meeting agreed delivery schedules and maintaining strict quality controls throughout deployment.
Project partners presented the planned execution model, explaining that the system will follow internationally recognised standards for biometric data collection and management, with the goal of delivering a reliable national solution that supports both security operations and civil services while improving the overall user experience.
