A Bahraini court has ordered an insurance company to pay BD25,097 in compensation to a pedestrian who sustained a fractured jaw, partial memory loss and a permanent disability assessed at 40% following a road traffic accident.

The court also ruled that statutory interest of 3% per year be paid from the date the claim was filed until full settlement.

In addition, the two defendants were ordered to cover legal fees and the costs of the court-appointed medical committee. Lawyer Mohammed Al Mahdi said his client was walking on a public road when he was struck by a vehicle driven by the first defendant. The victim suffered multiple injuries and fractures and spent 25 days in intensive care after slipping into a coma, before later regaining consciousness.

The driver had previously been convicted in a related criminal case. Prosecutors established that the accident resulted from negligence, citing the driver’s failure to exercise due care and caution, and driving in a manner that endangered pedestrians using the roadway.
