Eight Bahraini employees at the Ministry of Information have moved to early retirement since the start of the current legislative term, after applying to do so, the ministry has told Parliament.
In its written reply to MP Jameel Mulla Hassan, the ministry said each case was processed after a request from the employee, so they could benefit from the state pension scheme. It said the decisions were handled under the civil service and pension rules used across government bodies.
The MP’s question asked for the number of Bahrainis sent to early retirement, their academic qualifications, the reasons for the step, and the checks used to ensure fair treatment. He also asked if the posts left empty had been filled, the qualifications of any replacements, and if the ministry had a plan to restructure its work.
The ministry did not list the academic qualifications of the eight employees, and did not name any replacement hires. It said it is working with the Civil Service Bureau to fill vacancies based on work needs and within the budgets available, with an emphasis on recruiting people whose skills and qualifications match the ministry’s aims under civil service rules.
On restructuring, the ministry said it is reviewing its structure in light of Decree No. 9 of 2024, which reorganised the Ministry of Information. It said the review is still ongoing.
The ministry said it applies the laws and rules in force in Bahrain and aims to raise the standard of its work in line with the Government Programme.
