Bahraini animal rescuer Laila Al-Khabbaz saved a cat in critical condition after discovering it on Budaiya Street, in a remarkable act of compassion.
The rescued cat is now in excellent health and is currently on display at the Bahrain International Show (Mara’ee 2025), serving as a symbol of dedication and compassion.
Laila said she was shocked by the cat’s emaciated state when she first picked it up, noting that it weighed no more than five kilograms and was suffering from severe health problems.
Immediately after finding the cat, Laila took it to a veterinary clinic, where it underwent comprehensive examinations.
The cat was identified as a “mink” breed and received an eye operation, along with intensive medical care to stabilize its condition. Thanks to continuous monitoring, proper treatment, and a carefully managed diet over the course of two years, the cat’s health gradually improved.
Its weight doubled to reach 10 kilograms, marking a remarkable recovery and highlighting the impact of individual initiatives in animal welfare.
Laila said the success story serves as motivation to continue her volunteer work in rescuing and caring for animals.
She urged the community to foster a culture of animal welfare and to assist animals in need whenever possible.
