Reformation and Rehabilitation Director Colonel Nasser Bakheet confirmed visitors to inmates at the Reform and Rehabilitation Centre in Jaw and the Dry Dock Remand Centre would continue as usual, from Sunday to Thursday.

He explained, visits could be made by contacting the booking department, or by reporting personally from 7 am to 5 pm on official working days. He added handing over items to inmates could also be done from Sunday to Thursday through the special service.

In addition to the two monthly visits by relatives, inmates would also be, in some cases, allowed to visit their relatives in case of the death of a close relative or for any other humanitarian emergency.

In such cases, a special order would be issued by the Reformation and Rehabilitation Directorate according to certain rules, he noted.

He added the visiting time would be between 8am and 4pm.

Colonel Bakheet said upgrading the Reformation and Rehabilitation Directorate to a Generate Directorate is an important step that would contribute to improving the quality of services provided for inmates.

He added the performance, installations and facilities would be better, and more programmes to train human resources would be implemented.

On relations with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), he said under the agreement signed between the two sides, ICRC representatives may pay programmed or exceptional visits to the centres to be informed about the conditions of the inmates.

He noted the Reformation and Rehabilitation Directorate is doing its best to ease procedures for them so that they can assume their responsibilities.
