MPs have tabled an urgent proposal calling for overdue promotions and allowances for government employees to be processed more quickly.
During session yesterday, Parliament received a proposal urging the government to speed up procedures for granting due promotions and pay rises across ministries, bodies and affiliated institutions.
The motion was submitted by Dr Hisham Al Ashiri, Jaleela Alawi, Mohsen Al Asbool, Mahmood Fardan and Mamdouh Al Saleh.
Dr Al Ashiri said the proposal calls for bringing forward the procedures for granting promotions and allowances owed to all government staff by introducing administrative and organisational steps that keep the process regular and within the timeframes already in place.
The text also seeks oversight measures to check compliance and to avoid postponing or stopping promotions and allowances in future.
He noted that delays have had job-related, financial and moral effects on many employees in different government entities, putting pressure on fair treatment at work and on administrative stability.
According to the reasons attached to the motion, the proposal aims to ensure staff receive their entitlements on time, raise satisfaction at work and lift productivity by improving the working environment and encouraging employees through clear rewards.
It also aims to encourage capable workers to pursue professional development and maintain strong performance.
The drafters cited repeated complaints from staff about promotions and allowances being delayed beyond the usual timetable, with an impact on the financial position of employees, particularly those on middle and lower incomes.
