Northern Municipal Council Head Inspects Nurana Coast Over Muddy Soil Concerns

The Chairman of the Northern Municipal Council, Dr. Shubber Al-Wadaei, carried out an inspection visit on Sunday to Nurana Coast, located between Karana and Jid Al-Haj villages, to assess the muddy soil issue and discuss possible technical solutions.

The site visit included representatives from several concerned authorities, such as the Northern Governorate Police Directorate, Civil Defense, Budaiya Police Station, the Supreme Council for Environment, the cleaning company, and the Ministry of Municipalities and Agriculture Affairs, represented by the Northern Municipality, with staff from sanitation, monitoring, and inspection departments.

Speaking to Al-Ayam, Dr. Al-Wadaei said the inspection aimed to exchange views and identify effective solutions to address the muddy soil, stressing the urgency of finding a permanent solution to the problem that has long troubled residents and poses significant risks—especially to children—both from the area and visiting families.

He explained that the council had studied the site in 2020 with relevant authorities and issued recommendations, but no comprehensive action has been taken so far. However, Dr. Al-Wadaei noted that Sunday’s tour reflected serious intent by stakeholders to move toward a permanent solution. This, he said, depends on identifying the party responsible for the soil’s formation, which he attributed to past land reclamation activities.

With the coast becoming a popular recreational spot during changing weather conditions, Al-Wadaei warned that the muddy patches could endanger lives, particularly children, who risk becoming trapped in the soil.

He further urged the Urban Planning and Development Authority to conduct a study to properly classify and plan the coastal land, noting that its current unplanned status continues to delay efforts to resolve the issue effectively.
