Bahrain-Azerbaijan Partnership Enters a New Phase of Cooperation

As part of his official visit to the Republic of Azerbaijan, Engineer Mohammed Ibrahim Al Sisi Al Buainain, Secretary-General of Bahrain’s Council of Representatives, met with Rustam Mammadov, Deputy Head of the Office of the Azerbaijani National Assembly (“Milli Majlis”), along with senior officials from various departments of the Assembly. The discussions focused on enhancing institutional cooperation and improving coordination between the two parliaments to support joint parliamentary work.

The meetings highlighted Azerbaijan’s experience in digital transformation and the development of information systems supporting parliamentary functions. Both sides exchanged best practices in artificial intelligence and explored ways to apply them to legislative and oversight processes, aiming to improve parliamentary efficiency and services provided to members.

Al Buainain expressed pride in the strong historical and cultural ties between Bahrain and Azerbaijan, noting that next year marks the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries—a significant opportunity to further strengthen parliamentary friendship and cooperation.

He also praised the Azerbaijani National Assembly for its advanced legislative and administrative systems and emphasized Bahrain’s commitment, under the leadership of Speaker Ahmed bin Salman Al-Musallam, to sharing expertise for the mutual benefit of both nations.

The Secretary-General also met with Saber Hajiyev, Chair of the Bahrain-Azerbaijan Parliamentary Friendship Group, to discuss expanding parliamentary cooperation and developing joint channels for consultation and coordination at regional and international forums.

Both sides noted that Bahrain-Azerbaijan relations are rapidly growing thanks to the attention and support of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa of Bahrain and President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan, who are committed to strengthening bilateral cooperation across various sectors. Hajiyev emphasized that the strong relations between the two countries are rooted in the close friendship between their leaderships and highlighted the importance of exchange visits between the Bahraini Council of Representatives and the Azerbaijani National Assembly.

In the final part of the visit, Al Buainain met with Samdin Asadov, Deputy Minister of Digital Development and Transport of Azerbaijan, and senior ministry officials. Discussions covered Azerbaijan’s advanced digital and smart transport systems and explored ways to apply these experiences to enhance Bahrain’s parliamentary digital infrastructure and support the transition to smart systems for legislative work.

The meetings also addressed innovative digital solutions to improve parliamentary services and efficiency, keeping pace with global technological transformations.

Both sides affirmed that the visit achieved positive outcomes, laying a solid foundation for a new phase of cooperation and opening avenues for strategic partnership between Bahrain and Azerbaijan.
