Moscow: Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) has arrested a security guard who worked at the British Embassy in Moscow, accusing him of working for Ukraine and assisting in the planning of a possible "false flag" attack against British diplomatic personnel.
According to the FSB, the unnamed guard shared sensitive material with a Ukrainian-linked blogger, including details about diplomats' travels and security arrangements. Investigators believe the material was meant to support an act that could then be blamed on Russia and used to bring Britain further into the Ukraine crisis.
Russian authorities are reportedly charging the man with high treason, which carries a life sentence. The FSB has produced video footage purporting to show his detention and confession, although the accusations have not been independently corroborated.
According to the British Embassy, the individual was engaged by an external security contractor rather than the UK government. The lawsuit comes as tensions between Moscow and London rise over the war in Ukraine, with both sides accused of espionage and covert operations.
