Bahrain Space Agency Opens Registration for 8th Annual Space Apps Challenge Hackathon
The Bahrain Space Agency has announced the opening of registration for programmers, scientists, designers, storytellers, tech enthusiasts, entrepreneurs, artists, and students of all ages and nationalities to take part in the 8th edition of the Space Apps Challenge Hackathon, which will be held in person.
The annual international competition is organized by the Bahrain Space Agency under the supervision of NASA and in collaboration with the Bahrain Society of Engineers. This year, the hackathon will take place at two locations: the University of Bahrain campus in Sakhir and the Bahrain Polytechnic campus in Isa Town, on 4–5 October 2025. The Bahrain Space Agency emphasized that the hackathon is open to participants worldwide. Teams of innovators will use publicly available NASA space data to develop solutions addressing current challenges in the space industry. Participants will have 48 hours to complete their projects, which can take the form of apps, games, or other creative technological solutions.
Teams will compete for six main awards based on their data usage, technology application, and local impact, all sponsored by the Bahrain Space Agency in collaboration with NASA. In addition, NASA will offer 10 special awards for eligible participants.
The agency highlighted that these events are part of a broader series of awareness activities aimed at fostering innovation and creativity within the community, especially among youth, and encouraging the adoption of creative practices across sectors, particularly in the emerging field of space science.
The Space Apps Challenge is held in cities worldwide, with participation from over 15 space agencies, including NASA, the European Space Agency, the Saudi Space Commission, the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency, the Canadian Space Agency, the Brazilian Space Agency, and the Italian Space Agency. The previous edition of the hackathon saw more than 93,250 participants from over 163 countries.
