MP Jalal Kadhem voiced full support for Decree-Law No. 30 of 2025, which amends parts of the Traffic Law and raises penalties for serious offences.
He described it as a “step change” in Bahrain’s road rules.
Kadhem said: “These amendments come in response to an urgent social need to curb road accidents that threaten the lives of citizens and residents. Tougher penalties will deter reckless behaviour such as driving at excessive speed, driving under the influence of drink or drugs, and running red lights.”
He added that the decree shows the leadership’s care for protecting lives and property, and backs national efforts to spread road awareness and disciplined driving. The new penalties include imprisonment, fines and, in some cases, vehicle confiscation.
Measures
Kadhem said these measures are aimed at raising compliance with the law and reducing accident rates.
The lawmaker urged the public to follow traffic rules and work with the authorities to keep roads safer.
He said Parliament will support initiatives and draft laws that seek to improve road safety and to meet Bahrain’s aim of a safe, sustainable traffic environment.
