For more than 50 years, the Kingdom of Bahrain and the Republic of Lebanon have shared a strong and trusted relationship, one that goes beyond formal diplomacy and reflects a deep human, cultural, and economic connection. Despite the challenges and changes in the region over the decades, the bond between the two nations has remained resilient.
The journey began in 1970, when Bahrain sent its first diplomatic mission to Lebanon, led by the late Shaikh Khalid bin Ali bin Mohammed bin Isa Al Khalifa. This marked the beginning of formal steps towards establishing official ties.
By May 29, 1972, Bahrain and Lebanon officially announced the opening of embassies in both countries. Bahrain appointed its first ambassador, the late Ali Al-Mahroos — a key figure in the founding generation of Bahraini diplomacy.
Interestingly, even before the official diplomatic exchange, Bahrain and Lebanon had already built strong cultural, educational, and healthcare ties. Since the 1960s, Bahrain welcomed many skilled Lebanese professionals who played a major role in developing local schools, media, medical centers, and cultural production companies. Their expertise helped shape the modern Bahraini landscape, blending Lebanese professionalism with Bahrain’s vision for national development.
Today, the Lebanese community continues to be an integral part of Bahraini society, enjoying appreciation from both the leadership and the public. They remain a key pillar in the cultural and human exchange between the two nations.
Throughout the years, Bahrain has stood in solidarity with Lebanon during difficult times. One notable moment was Bahrain’s strong condemnation of the assassination of former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri. His Majesty the King sent a message of condolences, calling the act a “blatant assault on Lebanon’s security and stability.” Bahrain later welcomed the ruling of the international tribunal and reaffirmed its support for international justice and Lebanon’s sovereignty.
This rich history reflects a relationship built not just on politics, but on shared values, mutual respect, and genuine friendship between the peoples of Bahrain and Lebanon.
