Over the past few months in 2025, authorities have referred 8 cases of driving against traffic to the competent courts. Driving in the wrong direction is considered a serious traffic offense in Bahrain.

Those caught driving the wrong way face penalties that can include up to 6 months in jail and a fine of BD 500. If the violation results in injury or death, the punishment can be much more severe—up to 10 years in prison.

To improve investigation processes, authorities have introduced visual investigation technology. This allows for remote questioning of suspects and hearing witnesses without the need to appear in person.

Additionally, drivers exceeding the speed limit by more than 30% face a fine of BD 500 or jail time of up to 6 months.

The authorities emphasize the importance of road safety and warn that strict measures will continue to be enforced to protect everyone on the road.
