Two young girls narrowly escaped a suspected kidnap attempt while walking home from their school bus stop in Budaiya, raising concern among families in the usually quiet neighbourhood.

The girls, aged around nine and twelve, were walking a short distance to their home from the bus stop when a car with two unknown individuals began to follow them.

According to their father, a woman inside the vehicle, dressed in black and speaking in English, repeatedly urged the children to get in, saying, “Let’s go for a ride, we’ll take you wherever you want.”

The girls described the car as old and said the woman had a frightening face.

They recalled that the car entered a nearby open ground through which they were walking and followed them off the main road.

Once the girls returned to the street, the vehicle turned away and left.

The incident occurred around 2pm. The children initially did not recognise the gravity of the situation and shared the experience when they reached home.

“They just mentioned someone with a scary face who told them to get into a car. That’s when we realised how serious it was,” their father said.

The matter was reported to police later that afternoon. Police informed the family that the girls’ statements would be formally recorded the following day by a female officer, in line with standard procedures involving minors.

A case has been registered, and the family completed the necessary documentation. The father said he had never encountered or heard of such incidents in the area before.

“It’s a peaceful neighbourhood. We never imagined something like this would happen here,” he said.

He urged parents to speak to their children about how to react if approached by strangers, stressing that awareness is essential even in familiar surroundings.

“If it were boys, they might have gone along for the fun of it. That’s why it’s so important to make our kids aware,” he added.

Several residents in Budaiya expressed concern over the report, noting the need for greater vigilance and prompt reporting to ensure community safety.
