Import of old cars to be stopped
Starting from May 1, no vehicle imported from abroad will be registered if it is more than five years old, The Director of Licensing Affairs Department in the General Directorate of Traffic (GDT), Lt-Colonel Shaikh Abdulrahman bin Abdulwahab Al Khalifa announced.
The period applies to private cars, private passenger transport vehicles and motorbikes. A ten-year limit will be imposed on private cargo cars, locomotives, trailers and semi-trailers.
The decision is in compliance with clause 98 of the Executive Code of the Traffic Law 23/2014, Shaikh Abdulrahman said.
Classic and historic automobiles and cars with special specifications will be exempted from the limit, Lt-Colonel Shaikh Abdulrahman bin Abdulwahab Al Khalifa added.
