A case against 27 workers accused of breaching employment laws has fallen apart after a court ruled they had valid work permits.

The Lower Criminal Court cleared all defendants after finding no grounds for the charges.

The case arose from an agreement between a company, represented by the first defendant, and two hotels it was hired to manage.

Prosecutors alleged that the first defendant had employed 26 foreign workers in 2024 without the necessary permits, while the workers themselves were accused of working without approval from the authorities.

Charges were brought under labour market laws, including provisions from Law No. 19 of 2006 and its 2014 amendments.

Defence lawyers argued the prosecution had no standing, pointing out that the Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) had not formally referred the case.
