Bahraini Students Achieve Top Ranks in TIMSS 2023 International Assessments
Students from schools across the Kingdom of Bahrain have secured advanced rankings in the 2023 Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS), as announced by the International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement (IEA), based in Amsterdam. Bahrain's achievement comes following the participation of all government and private schools in the kingdom as part of a broad international assessment.
Bahraini students ranked second in the Arab world in the Grade 4 Science assessment and third in the Grade 4 Mathematics assessment. Additionally, they secured fourth place in the Arab world in the Grade 8 Science assessment and third place in the Grade 8 Mathematics assessment.
On this occasion, Dr. Samah Mohammed Al-Ajawi, Assistant Undersecretary for Education Policies and Development and National Coordinator for International Studies, expressed her gratitude to all students who participated in the assessment, as well as to the teachers and specialists who supervised their preparation. She emphasized that the Ministry of Education is committed to enhancing educational practices in mathematics and science to keep pace with global advancements in these critical subjects within the STREAM approach.
Dr. Al-Ajawi further highlighted the ministry’s strategic efforts to develop mathematics and science curricula and improve teaching methodologies to achieve even better international results in future assessments.
The TIMSS study aims to provide highly accurate, high-quality, and credible data and indicators on the teaching and learning of mathematics and science in government and private schools. These insights are instrumental in shaping educational policies and ensuring continuous improvements in the teaching of these subjects.
