Saudi Arabia’s Saudi Ministry of Defense said on Wednesday that its air defence forces had intercepted and destroyed two cruise missiles near the central city of Al Kharj.

In a brief statement carried by the ministry’s official spokesperson, the defence ministry said the interception was carried out in the Al Kharj area, without providing further operational details.

The statement did not specify whether the incident caused any casualties or damage.

Al Kharj is located about 85 kilometres southeast of the capital, Riyadh, and lies close to Prince Sultan Air Base, a major Saudi airbase that has previously hosted foreign military aircraft.

No additional information was released by the authorities in Saudi Arabia on the origin of the missiles or the circumstances surrounding the interception.
