Ankara: Turkey said a ballistic missile fired from Iran and heading towards its airspace was destroyed by NATO air and missile defence systems over the Eastern Mediterranean, according to the Turkish Ministry of National Defence.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the ministry said the missile had passed through the airspace of Syria and Iraq before heading towards Turkey.

The ministry said there were no casualties or injuries as a result of the incident.

It added that Turkey reserves the right to respond to any hostile actions against it and warned all parties against taking steps that could further escalate the conflict.
