Parliamentary-Municipal joint meet on Thursday

A joint parliamentary-municipal meeting will be held on Thursday for the first time during this legislative term, it was announced recently.

The meeting will discuss mutual coordination and avoiding clash in areas of jurisdiction between MPs and municipal councils.

It will be held in Parliament House in Gudaibiya, under the patronage of Speaker of the Council Ahmed bin Ibrahim Al Mulla, and will be attended by all councillors from Muharraq, Northern and Southern Municipal Councils, in addition to the members of Manama General Secretariat and the 40 MPs of the council.

The discussions will be chaired by MP Adel Al Assoomy and comes within the council’s scheme to enhance communication with the different parties of the Bahraini society, the council confirmed in a statement.

Speaking to DT News, Northern Municipal Council Chairman Mohammed Buhumood said he was one of the presenters of the request to hold such a meeting to strengthen coordination between MPs and members of municipal councils and to avoid clash in areas of jurisdictions between them.

“The Parliamentary and municipal representatives of some areas are working separately, while high levels of coordination should exist between them. At the same time, MPs and councillors are working to fulfil the same requirements of the people of the constituencies they’re representing without any sort of harmony between them, resulting in repeat of the same efforts,” said Buhumood.

The meeting was scheduled to be held on November 26, but was postponed due to technical reasons. Buhumood also said that the possibility of regularly holding the meeting would be discussed on Thursday.
